TRSB is looking for an experienced Paymaster. Reporting to the Comptroller, you will manage the payroll of the entire organization and provide courteous, quality service to its employees with regard to salary and government plan processing, as well as legal compliance.
AS PAYMASTER, YOUR DAILY ROUTINE WOULD CONSIST IN:
- Accurately check and process pay (4) for all employees based on the ongoing pay cycle.
- Ensure the accuracy of all payroll data, including those related to vacation leave, statutory holidays and leaves of absence.
- Perform the appropriate payroll verification to ensure the payroll system correctly takes source documentation into account.
- Process pays manually or off cycle, as needed.
- Process hires, employment terminations and changes related to payroll that affect employees.
- Check full pays and review reports to ensure their accuracy and comprehensiveness before their issue.
- Manage enrolment, premium calculations and employment terminations related to group benefits and RRSP (in collaboration with the Human Resources team).
- Accurately record and update employee payroll data.
- Manage time banks, sick leave, vacation leave and unpaid leave on the Cangaroo HRIS.
- Monitor time sheets and audit them using the employee time sheet management tool.
- Collaborate daily with the Payroll Technician to provide them with the guidance and knowledge they need to give the necessary support as part of the payroll management process.
- Meet all governmental requirements within the set timeframes.
- Process and oversee year-end statements and tax forms.
- Provide expert advice to explain the core causes of errors and exceptions.
- Manage payroll-related communications intended for employees.
- Provide advisory services to your clients in collaboration with team leaders and the Human Resources team, as needed.
- Recommend improvement processes for the Payroll department, as needed.
- Perform any other related task or project.
THIS POSITION MAY BE IDEAL FOR YOU IF YOU:
- Hold a college degree in accounting or have any other equivalent experience.
- Hold a bachelor’s degree in accounting or other relevant field (asset).
- Have at least 5 years of experience in a similar role.
- Are a member of the National Payroll Institute (NPI) (asset).
- Are highly proficient with the Microsoft Office suite (including advanced Excel skills).
- Have experience using payroll management systems (knowledge of Employer D software is an asset).
- Have extensive knowledge of the general payroll management regulations and Canadian payroll legislation at the provincial and federal levels.
- Are knowledgeable of the general payroll management regulations in the US and France (asset).
- Are proficient with the Cangaroo HRIS (asset).
- Are proficient in spoken and written French and English.
- Can act in a tactful, honest and diplomatic manner at all times.
- Can quickly grasp payroll issues and the importance of confidentiality in such a role.
- Have a meticulous and detail-oriented approach.
- Know how to build and maintain good relationships with internal clients.
- React quickly and efficiently to multiple requests.
- Love working with numbers.
- Have an innate affinity for customer service.
