Localization

When you launch a website or an application in another language, you need to make sure that what appears on the screen, and all of the supporting materials, is clear and consistent for your target audience. Using the latest tools and a collaborative approach, we can help manage the process so that the sites and applications you offer are usable and useful, no matter what the users’ language.

YOUR CHALLENGE: SOFTWARE PRODUCT RELEASE IN MULTIPLE LANGUAGES

You’ve won the contract to build a complex online interactive application, but the project is urgent and the kick-off and training take place next month. You need translators aware of the specialized terminology and experts in technology and programming. You need someone who can work with your developers and customized formats, but who can you turn to?

ONE OF OUR SOLUTIONS

Our client, a major insurance provider, needed a team of translators that had extensive experience in employee benefits and pension management to collaborate with the developers and determine how best to work with the customized technology. We had no context, extreme security issues, connectivity problems, and the shortcomings of a software that was not designed to cover a multilingual reality.

Throughout the process, we were able to use our expertise and versatility to advise our client, as their partner. We built a team comprised of language specialists, subject matter experts and localization technicians in order to use what little time we had as efficiently as possible. While the timeline was a critical element in the launching of the system, just as important were budget and quality. We adapted our procedures to manage within the financial restraints, without ever reducing the quality of our service.

The interface had to be translated in both French and Spanish for North America. The 1,500 source files were exported and processed into Excel, but all of the updates and the lengthy validation process had to be completed using a customized tool. We sent team members to the client for on-site training, allowing the translators to see the text as it would be displayed for the end user. The translation, content updates and functional and linguistic testing were all done in overlapping phases by team members working on-site. The new version of the portal was deployed on time and bug free. The client continues to call on us to perform all necessary updates to the interface.

The application had been translated in the past by various external and internal groups in a decentralized manner. The client needed a team of subject matter experts who could work directly in the software to review the entire Canadian French content for consistency and accuracy. We deployed a team of specialists to work at the client’s head office who could perform linguistic, cosmetic and functional tests of the entire French application. During the month-long project, our team of linguists ensured that all updates to the user guides and databases reflected terminology changes and any other modifications. The client saw immediate results and thereafter had a fully localized software that could immediately be put to good use in the target market.
